The Devil Is Alive and Well

dark sacrament

In The Dark Sacrament, co-authors David M. Kiely and Christina McKenna recount ten contemporary cases of demon possession, haunted houses, and exorcisms, and profile the work of two living, active exorcists. This book is a suspense-filled journey into the bizarre.

I find tales of the paranormal extremely interesting. The Dark Sacrament is a very entertaining book and did not disappoint. I would much rather read on topics of this sort that have the possibility of truth (or some version of it) for their entertainment value. And who knows? The claims could be true. Humans really know a lot less than many of us claim to.

It's a series of 10 short stories, presented in a non-fictional manner that are based on actual cases in Ireland. Names, locations and family details (number of children in a family etc) have been changed at the request of the people involved. I would imagine they would have to, otherwise the people involved would be harassed to no end by others with interest in their cases.

One of the stories "The boy who communes with Demons" is of a 10 year old boy who discovers an ouija board on his own and begins to make use of it two to three times a week. He is soon met by a demon named Tyrannus who begins to take over his life and harass his family. The story goes on and tells of how the board reveals things in the future that a 10 year old boy would normally have no interest in, and "not to read the Bible, because its garbage".

Other stories include the crazy neighbor who freaks out and goes wild which was amusing (I have a sick sense of humor at times), and the spooky story of a family harassed by evil spirits banging incessantly on the wall of the home among many other things, that if you imagined them happening to you would be quite creepy.

I found it an excellent read.
